Launch of Smart Energy Data Service

Introducing SENSE

16 March 2026, University of Oxford

Join our Smart Energy Data Service (SENSE) team for their official launch event.

SENSE has been established to make accessing, linking, and using energy data easier, faster, and more impactful. This event will bring together leaders from across the smart data, energy, and research communities to explore why better energy data is needed now, how cutting-edge technology can unlock its value, and what’s coming next.

Event details

Time: 9:45am to 6:00pm

Location: L2, Mathematical Institute, Andrew Wiles Building, University of Oxford

Why attend?

  • Discover a one-stop shop for smart energy and contextual data, removing the pain of linking datasets to generate insight
  • Learn about unique and hard-to-access datasets now available — with more being added all the time
  • Hear how cutting-edge lakehouse architecture is transforming what’s possible with smart energy data

About SENSE

SENSE, the Smart Energy Data Service, is the national service for smart energy systems data, unlocking the value of smart data (e.g. consumer behaviour, electric vehicles, consumption, networks) to enable high-impact cutting-edge multidisciplinary research. This supports innovation and joined-up policy solutions to the biggest sustainability, health and wellbeing and Net Zero policy challenges.

Alongside leadership from Energy Systems Catapult and the University of Oxford, SENSE is delivered in collaboration with partners including the Counting Lab, University of Birmingham, University of Bristol, University of Leeds,  Leeds Beckett University, University of Reading, UCL and the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s Hartree Centre.

The data service is part of Smart Data Research UK’s family of six data services.
