Unlocking the power of smart energy data

Introduction to the Smart Energy Data Service

17 March 2026, 2:00pm to 3:00pm

Parliamentary researchers are invited to join our Smart Energy Data Service (SENSE) for a webinar showcasing its work.

Without the energy that heats and powers our buildings and cars, we would be lost. SENSE is making new smart energy datasets available for research as part of Smart Data Research UK.

Learn about the role of synthetic data and how SENSE can help you to answer critical questions around fuel poverty, ensuring that EV charging is available to everyone, and how we can make our NHS more efficient.

This session will introduce the newly launched service and help you understand the data and support available to help you deliver your vital work in Parliament.

Speakers

Dr Richard Snape

Dr Richard Snape is co-director of SENSE. Richard has worked with energy systems data for the past 15 years, latterly in the Dynamic Energy Systems Simulation group at the Catapult, following ten years in academia. He has managed large projects and teams in application areas from software engineering to railway maintenance.

Although an engineer at heart, Richard enjoys combining social and physical systems’ data to generate new insights and maximise social value from collected data.

Dr Stephen Haben

Dr Stephen Haben is a Senior AI consultant.  He has worked on AI and Data Science in the Energy Sector for over 15 years, with expertise in energy forecasting for Low Voltage Networks.

Steve leads the SENSE work package on Research Centre for Excellence and Horizon Scanning, and other recent work includes a DESNZ funded project, AI for Decarbonisation’s Virtual Centre for Excellence.
