Introduction to the Smart Data Donation Service
6 May 2026, 12:00pm to 1:00pm
This SDR UK ‘Lunch and learn’ training session is designed to help early career researchers access and use our Smart Data Donation Service (SDDS) to build strong and impactful work on digital ecosystems.
The webinar will be led by Dr David Zendle, director of the SDDS.
About
Often, behavioural data for understanding the impacts of digital platforms is inaccessible or locked away in corporate data silos.
In this webinar, David Zendle will describe potential use cases of this data in terms of understanding how online environments shape wellbeing, including factors such as sleep disruption, algorithmic bias, and the spread of information.
He’ll then introduce SDDS as a rights-based national resource built around the UK GDPR for providing researcher access to this kind of data, and explain how data portability underpins the service.
Finally, it’s time to turn all these insights into a set of practical next steps for ECRs: How to shape feasible research questions for SDDS data that align with their research agenda, think through study designs, and apply to SDDS for data access.
Who should attend?
Early career researchers interested in working with donated smart data.
