SDR UK at Evidence Week 2026
Smart Data Research UK will return to Evidence Week, the annual event organised by Sense about Science. The week brings together MPs, constituents, and researchers to discuss evidence-based policymaking.
On 6 July, our Geographic Data Service will lead a parliamentary policy briefing, Data after dark: insights into night workers for better policy.
The briefing draws on research from Data After Dark, which provides the most comprehensive portrait to date of London’s 1.32 million night workers. People who work at night play a vital but largely invisible role in sustaining the economy, public services, and infrastructure, yet face disproportionate risks across health, safety, pay, and representation. The research combines surveys, long-table discussions, and smart data analysis to identify evidence-led actions to improve fairness and safety, and to ensure the 24-hour economy is resilient and socially just.
The session will be led by Professor James Cheshire, Professor of Geographic Information and Cartography at UCL and Deputy Director of the Geographic Data Service.
GeoDS is part of Smart Data Research UK’s family of smart data services. It is the UK’s leading source of linked and georeferenced smart data, connecting different types of data through geography to study important social issues, including vulnerable populations, regional inequalities, and access to opportunities.
Evidence Week 2026 runs from 6 to 10 July. It offers MPs and their staff opportunities to engage with researchers on policy-relevant evidence. The session is open to MPs, peers, and parliamentary staff. Register via the Sense about Science website.
