SENSE data in action: Smart data for timely indicators of energy vulnerability
Discover new data from our Smart Energy Data Service (SENSE).
With official fuel poverty statistics lagging years behind household reality, find out how smart meter and banking data can deliver timely indicators of energy vulnerability, and the actions organisations can take now to target support before households reach crisis point.
About the webinar
A major shift in how energy vulnerability is measured is approaching across the UK.
Official fuel poverty statistics are built on annual housing surveys and modelled estimates, published with a significant time lag. By the time the figures are available, the households they describe may already have cut back on heating, self disconnected from prepay meters, or fallen into debt.
As energy prices, incomes and household circumstances shift more rapidly, policymakers and support organisations need a clearer, more frequent picture of who is struggling, where, and when.
Join Energy Systems Catapult for the launch of the new fuel poverty indicators dataset from SENSE. Torran Semple (University of Oxford) and Anna Strzelecka (Energy Systems Catapult) will explain how detailed banking data and Smart DCC prepayment meter data can be used to derive near real-time indicators of energy vulnerability, and the research and interventions these indicators could make possible
What you’ll learn
- How fuel poverty is measured today, and where current approaches fall short
- The new data sources that make near real-time indicators possible
- What banking data reveals about household energy spending
- How Smart DCC prepayment meter data can flag signs of vulnerability
Speakers
- Torran Semple, Multi-disciplinary researcher, University of Oxford
- Anna Strzelecka, Modelling & Simulation Engineer, Energy Systems Catapult
