Dr Conor Gaughan

Conor is a postdoctoral research associate based in the Cathie Marsh Institute for Social Research at the University of Manchester. He recently obtained his PhD in Political Science from the University of Southampton and specialises in the use of advanced quantitative methods for the study of online networks and digital data.

His research focuses on the incorporation of new forms of communication data, like social media, into conventional survey research to improve our understanding of key political concepts. His work makes use of advanced computational and statistical methods, including natural language processing and network analysis, to generate new insights into substantive representation and electoral behaviour.

Before receiving his PhD in 2025, Conor completed a BSocSc in Politics and International Relations at the University of Manchester, followed by an MSc in Applied Social Data Science at the University of Exeter.

Watch Conor and his colleague Dr Marta Cantijoch talking about their research at Digital Footprints 2025.
