Dr Yujie Shi

Dr. Yujie Shi is a researcher in international trade, trade policy, and global supply chains, based at Aston University. Her work has a particular focus on non-tariff measures, trade disintegration following Brexit, and the role of web technologies in firm performance. Her work applies advanced econometric methods and high-frequency data to address policy-relevant questions on trade barriers, firm strategy, and regulatory impacts.

Her current research uses firm-to-firm shipment data to track how UK-relevant firms adapt their supply chains to global trade shocks, including Brexit, the Trump trade war, and geopolitical disruptions, generating real-time evidence on firm-level resilience to inform UK trade and industrial policy. She also examines how tariffs and non-tariff measures shape firm import and export behaviour, and how web technologies influence SME innovation, internationalisation, and performance.

Yujie has extensive experience working with large-scale firm-level datasets, including Panjiva, ONS, HMRC, Panjiva, Orbis, Beauhurst, Trade Data Monitor, and other international trade databases.

Specialities: International trade, trade policy, global supply chains, econometrics, and web technologies.
